Road Covers

Sub-heading

Our below ground grease traps are supplied with a Galvanized steel cover or ‘lid’. There are four classifications designed for different load capacities.

Light Duty – For use on footpaths where it is possible for a vehicle to mount the footway or for light vehicles, such as tractors or livestock to use the pedestrian facility.

Medium Duty – For use in areas normally reserved for pedestrians and only occasionally open to vehicles for delivery or cleaning purposes, or in an emergency, where wheel loads will not exceed 4 tonne.

Heavy Duty – For unrestricted use in the carriage ways of arterial and other roads which may carry fast moving vehicles where the wheel load will not exceed 8 tonne.

Extra Heavy Duty – Generally any use which will exceed the above parameters. Products can be manufactured to suit a particular application such as traffic on a construction site or airports.

Please note that CV Plastics can supply covers to comply with AS3996-2006 on request. Independent test certificates can be supplied. All these covers are Vic Roads approved.

We also supply cast iron covers in the standard class A, class B, Class C and class D ratings to suit our below ground trade waste products.

Installation

These instructions are only intended to serve as a guide to the installation and operation of the steel grease trap covers. Covers should be placed level and inserted into surrounds before concrete is poured. Use this method for products to be cast into pre cast concrete pits. This method is generally used where the opening to be covered is not within a building or concrete paved area.

The second method requires that either a rebate be formed or the pit wall is kept at the level which would be otherwise the bottom of the rebate. In general this method is preferable for large or heavy lids. The cover is set up on form work or resting on the supported grease trap top lip so that it may be cast in situ within the surrounding floor or pavement area.

It is recommended that concrete filled covers be allowed at least 10 days to cure before use.

Grease, fats and oils that are trapped are normally acidic by nature and therefore all steel covers are supplied with a durable heavy galvanized finish to prevent corrosion. Some trade waste pits may not require the covers to be galvanised and therefore black steel or cast iron covers may be offered.
